University of California Agriculture & Natural Resources

The Nutrition Policy Institute at University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources is embarking upon an exciting new research and evaluation plan to better understand the effects of USDA's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) in California under contract with The Department of Public Health's (CDPH) Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Branch. CDPH and other California agencies implement SNAP-Ed programming to improve nutrition and physical activity for SNAP-eligible Californians by conducting multi-faceted, multi-sector community-based interventions.

The Epidemiologist is needed to provide leadership for the design and analysis of nutrition education and obesity prevention research and evaluation efforts for California's SNAP-Ed program.

Job Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Epidemiology or Biostatistics.
  • At least one year of experience as a epidemiologist advising on and/or conducting and analyzing findings from epidemiologic studies and/or evaluations.
  • Thorough knowledge of research methods and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in complex statistical procedures and programming.
  • Experience using SAS, STATA and/or SPSS.
  • Excellent communication skills translating complex statistical information, procedures, and interpretation of findings in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience preparing reports and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to assess, plan, coordinate and evaluate quality assurance activities of NEOP data collection and data analysis activities.
  • Ability in project management and ability to supervise technical and non-technical personnel.
  • PhD in Epidemiology or Biostatistics preferred.
