The University of Otago seeks to appoint a Lecturer to join the Department of Botany. We seek an applicant with a research focus on plant ecology and a clearly demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for botanical sciences.

The Role

The Department of Botany has a long record of excellence in research-informed teaching. As a Lecturer, you will be able to communicate your enthusiasm for plants to a wide range of science majors as well as to students majoring in Botany. The core responsibilities of the position will include:

  • teaching into selected courses within the Degree Programmes in Botany and Ecology;
  • attracting and supervising post-graduate students;
  • establishing an externally funded research programme; and
  • building an excellent publication profile.

Skills and Experience

You will show potential to be an outstanding researcher in an area that contributes to the Department of Botany’s strategic research themes (http://www.otago.ac.nz/botany/research/) and complements existing research in the Department (http://www.otago.ac.nz/botany/staff/). Collaborations with researchers nationally and internationally are encouraged.

The position will be offered as a confirmation-path (tenure track) position at the level of Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor in the North American system). The minimum qualification is a PhD degree.

The successful candidate is expected to take up duties in February 2018. If justified, a favoured candidate may be able to negotiate an earlier or later starting date with the Head of Department.
