Job Description

Research Coordinator
Columbia University, School of Nursing

The Research Coordinator will be responsible for the everyday tasks related to an informatics research study. The main goal of Research Coordinator is to make sure that the research project runs smoothly by tracking project progress and timely communicating its status to management and project members, as well as making sure that project members communicate with each other.

S/he will also be responsible for:

  • Successfully recruiting participants for this study,
  • Providing daily support for technical and research tasks including scheduling meetings, recruiting subjects, coordinating interviews, and preparing manuscripts,
  • Developing semi-annual and annual progress reports,
  • Collating all administrative reports to workable data and aid transformation from various data sources to the biostatistician for analysis,
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

This is a grant-funded position and employment is contingent upon continued funding.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree and at least three (3) years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.
  • Experience participating in projects as project coordinator or project management assistant.
  • Related experience in technology, information management, relational database design and development, and data mining or statistics, including programming, managing and maintaining data systems.
  • Very strong mathematical skills and good technical knowledge, including strong knowledge in computers. Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and MS Access is required.
  • Expertise in statistical software, such as STATA, R, SAS or SPSS, and big data management processes. Knowledge of relational and other databases (Oracle, SQL, PL/SQ) is also required.
  • Knowledge of programming languages used for data science, such as R or Python
  • Prior experience in quantitative research.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally as part of a team, as well as an individual contributor.
  • Ability to think independently as well as perform tasks according to the directions of faculty researchers and their project managers on specific projects.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate good decision making skills, be able to call out conflicting issues when they arise, and possess knowledge of how and when to follow through on issues.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to exercise leadership in data analysis activities as part of a research project team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field
